2018  Creative Literary Contest for Students

Participation is FREE of charge

 

UNIFERO Inc., a non-profit, non-governmental organisation registered in Atlanta, USA, invites you to the eleventh Annual Literary Contest for students (open January 30 - May 30, 2018),  on the occasion of the 11th UNIFERO Inc. International Conference to take place in Alba Iulia, ROMANIA July 12-15, 2018, dedicated to The Centenial Great Unification Anniversary.

First, Second and Third Prize will be awarded, along with three honorable mentions for each grades level. The winners in attendance at the Conference will be handed diplomas & prizes.

Guiding teachers will receive Participation Certificates , taken into account for the personal Professional Portfolio.

                                                                              Themes

Grades III-VI

 

·         Write a two-page letter adressed to a teacher / woman in your family whom you try to convince on why you wish to visit the Republic of Moldova and Northern Bucovina in Ukraine. Use the internet to research information on the Republic of Moldova, places to visit, its history as part of Romania.

·         Plagiarism means disqualification. Remember to address the letter with Dear Madam, ... / Dear Teacher, ... (name) and sign yourself at the end, using a closing phrase (Dearfully / Respectfully, ...name). Use Arial font, size 12, paragraph spacing 1.5.

 Grades VII - VIII

 

*      Write a true story told by your Grandmother, Mother, or a Teacher about Bessarabia and Northern Bucovina, what lead to their separation from Romania (historical event)

*      or for students living in other countries, a true story about important women of the country the students live in.

*      Consult books and the internet. Do not plagiarise (copy); mention your information sources in full (page, book, author or webpage).

The story shall have 2 pages, Arial font, paragraph spacing 1.5.

Grades IX-XII

Themes

1.       Essay or imaginary interview- the story of Elena ALISTAR ROMANESCU, essential figure in the achievement of the Great UNIFICATION of Romania, 100 years ago, or of any other woman, participant or supportive of the event.

2.       Journal of the Great UNIFICATION: Imagine you were actively engaged in the event. Describe situations, scenes, feelings and reactions of people.

The paper shall have up to 3 pages, Arial font, size 12, paragraph spacing 1.5.

For theme nr. 1:

a) It must include an introduction (name, age, social hierarchy, when and where she lived and what is she known for);

b) Your opinion about her - give at least two examples to support your opinion;

c)  The reaction you would have had during Elena ALISTAR ROMANESCU’s time period and in her situation;

d) Conclusion.

Theme 2: Follow the guidelines of Journal writing (date, events, etc)

The papers must be accompanied by the information about references (author, book title, year of appearance and publisher) and the attachment with the following:

Name of school & complete adress (Country, for students from outside Romania), class, teacher’s email adress,

Student: name, school, email adress, student’s photo & coordinating teacher’s name

*      Works sent directly by students will not be accepted. Deadline: May 30, 2018

*      The jury will announce the winners on www.unifero.net at the beginning of July 2018.
